India’s long-standing battle against terrorism has taken a new and assertive direction. India’s Stand Against Terrorism

“India’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has redefined India’s policy against terrorism, which now says that any attack on Indian soil will be considered as an act of war,” and our defence minister Shri Rajnath Singh emphasised that India always prioritised peace over war but when our sovereignty is attacked, it is necessary for India to respond. According to him, if Pakistan continues to support terrorism, it will be prepared to pay a heavier price.

Terrorism is not a problem of today, but has been a persistent challenge for India, particularly the cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan and insurgent activities in the northeastern and central parts of India. The 2008 Mumbai attack was a major turning point in transforming India’s counter-terror policies from defensive diplomacy to offensive, intelligence-based operations.

What is Operation SINDOOR?

Operation SINDOOR was launched on 7th May 2025 in retaliation for the Pahalgam terrorist attack of 22 April 2025, in which 26 innocent civilians lost their lives while enjoying their vacation in Baisaran valley, popularly known as mini-Switzerland of India, located in Pahalgam, Kashmir. This terror attack broke the hearts of all Indians, as all Hindu male visitors were targeted by the terrorist. Operation SINDOOR was a targeted retaliation to destroy the terror infrastructure not only in the Line of Control but deeper inside Pakistan.

Operation SINDOOR is India’s missile strike on Pakistan for accusing Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism. India’s multi-agency intelligence confirmed nine major camps were targeted in the operation. This operation was meticulously planned and an intelligence-led effort to destroy the terrorism related infrastructures and to ensure to avoid civilian harm.

How Pakistan Reacted to Operation SINDOOR?

In the reaction to Operation SINDOOR, Pakistan initiated a series of retaliatory drone and UCAV attacks targeting key Indian airbases and logistics infrastructure. These attempts were carefully neutralised by India’s active air defence system. Pakistan’s army launched a blitz of mortar shells on Jammu to kill civilians and to damage homes and religious sites. The conflict started with the drone battle, but on 10th May India accused Pakistan that attacked on Indian air bases, including the Sirsa air base, while Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos against India’s Operation SINDOOR.

What is the role of the Indian Air Force in Operation SINDOOR?

The Indian Air Force played a crucial role by conducting precise airstrikes on terror bases like Nur Khan Air Base and Rahimyar Khan Air Base of Pakistan, and the Air Force also protected Indian airspace from enemy drones and aircraft using its advanced air defence systems like the Akash missile system and older but effective systems like Pechora and OSA-AK. Operation Mahadev is a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police to eliminate the mastermind behind the Pahalgam attack of 22 April 2025 and two other terrorists connected with Lashkar-e-Taiba in an encounter in the forests near Dachigam National Park, Srinagar. In this operation, one terrorist was killed who had his involvement in the Sonamarg Tunnel attack of 2024. The terrorists are identified as Suleiman Shah, Jibran, and Hamza Afghani.
